cardTrend Spotting at the Atlanta Gift Show: Vintage Circus

Fresh off the Atlanta Gift Show, we saw tons of wonderful new products from some of our favorite designers as well as from some up and coming artists! Overall we were very pleased with all of the stories we created, each a conglomerate of unique items sure to delight.  However, I will say that after 20+ years attending the NY Gift Show, Atlanta was definitely an eye opening / exhausting experience!  A completely different set up with the majority of vendors showing in permanent showrooms, we found it challenging to keep up the same pace that we have grown accustomed to at the NY Show.  Regardless…we had a great time in Atlanta and look forward to sharing some of our favorite trends from the show as well as some of our favorite local shops and events.  Check back over the coming weeks for updates!

It seemed like everywhere we looked there were vintage inspired circus themed items…from cards to toys, gifts, paper goods, and even kid’s clothing.  Here are some of our favorite pieces…

I have to dish about my new favorite magazine “Sweet Paul“.  The minute I opened it, I could tell from its heavy paper stock, matte finish, and dark yet deliciously tempting pictures…that I was hooked!  Originally started as a blog by Paul Lowe Einlyng in 2007, this publication features the most amazing mix of food, crafts, and decorating that I have seen in quite awhile.  With the turn of each page there is new recipe I want to try, an artist I am dying to meet, or a project that exudes originality while somehow lacking the fear of perfection! Ahhh that’s it…this magazine does not compel you to live up to the perfection of Martha Stewart, it does not promote the flawless and often sterile interiors of Elle Decor, but instead provides it’s readers with cool, avant garde, accessible ideas that are sure to satisfy!  It’s no wonder…considering Paul Lowe Einlyng’s motto, “fullkommenhet er kjedelig” (adopted from his Norwegian grandmother) “perfection is boring.”  Take a look at some of the delectable recipes and content below…you will not be disappointed!!!!!

perfect party
There are just a few simple ingredients for a PERFECT party!

Tinsel: a sparkling decorative material that mimics the effect of ice or icicles. tr.v. tin·seled or tin·selled, tin·sel·ing or tin·sel·ling

Sequin: a small shining disk or spangle used for ornamentation.

Tinsel and sequins are back! No longer the gaudy decorations of the past, today they are refined and elegant.  With the holidays fast approaching, these shiny glamorous accents are a must.  Wear them, decorate with them, and adore them!  Skeptical?  I will be the first to admit… I generally associate tinsel with fake trees or bad holiday décor and sequins with unfortunate prom dresses of the 1908’s…but times they are a changing.  Today there are so many great options from clothing to decor, all of which celebrate these shiny little numbers.  So, if you want to make them the guest of honor at your next celebration, check out some of our favorite shining stars below!
